Mango’s Place provides the foundation of meaningful open-ended play by providing several different centers and prop boxes to problem solve, be spatially aware and to learn how to communicate with teachers and friends.

What We Learn

Spatial Awareness and Problem Solving

At the time of the child’s first birthday, your child will transition into our older infant classroom developing spatial awareness by crawling, climbing, walking and exploring their surroundings. They will have the opportunity to navigate their way through a tunnel, mimic block patterns and engage with teachers through verbal descriptions i.e. “head, shoulders, knees and toes”.

Infants will start to understand the aspect of cause and effect through engaging with multiple manipulatives and play time activities. They will learn how to get themselves out of sticky situations.

Language Skills and Open-Ended Play

Infants will start communicating their wants, needs and emotions, with body and sign language. Teachers will encourage simple signs, paired with simple phrases, to assist infant’s communication skills. Example: a teacher may use sign language at mealtime to indicate if a child wants more or is all done.

As children explore the classroom, teachers will encourage language by using descriptive simple phrases such as: “wow, you found a blue car!” “can you find something else that is blue?”. This form of communication helps infants build connections as they develop and explore in different environments.

Socialization and Meaningful Activities

Children will learn to work together, problem solve, develop language skills and will ease separation by forming new bonds. At this age children are developing skills such as sharing, communicating with their friends and following simple directions.

Meaningful activities give them the foundation to be creative and imaginative alongside their new friends and teachers. Teachers will continue to spark their curiosity and love of learning through guided sensory play, dramatic play boxes, fine motor and gross motor activities.

Visual Development / Social Activities
These activities include: Play mats, visual tracking, high contrast cards, flashcards and books. / Peek-a-boo, mirror time – self recognition and playing with friends.
Cognitive Development
These activities include: Repetitive games, interaction with other children, responding to different facial expressions, exploring new objects, cloth books to explore textures and musical exploration.
Physical Development
These activities include: exploring, crawling and pulling themselves up, push and pull games with balls and soft toys, walking, talking, dancing and singing action songs, action games like peek-a-boo and pat-a-cake and pretending to be an animal.

Jungle Insights

Sleeping

Cribs and crib sheets are provided for all children in attendance. Children may have blankets placed in their cribs at 12 months of age. Please visit our Parent Handbook for more information.

Diapering

Please provide a sufficient quantity of disposable diapers for your child’s visit, along with a change of clothing. Licensing requires diapers to be checked every two hours or when needed. Please visit our Parent Handbook for more information.

Cleaning

Mango’s Place takes great pride in our cleaned and well-kept facilities. Toys, play equipment, meal and sleep areas are deep cleaned and sanitized on a regular basis with hospital -grade, natural cleaning products.
